Papers, 1871-1880.

Papers consisting of correspondence and a stock certificate. Includes a letter, 1876 May 8, from Joseph H. Sloss in Tuscumbia, Ala. to Charles Carter Langdon in Mobile, in which he asks Langdon to run as an independent candidate in the next gubernatorial election. Sloss is critical of the Gov. George S. Houston administration. A handwritten copy of Langdon's reply, 1876 May 20, indicates a firm rejection of the suggestion; most of the letter discusses Langdon's political philosophies. The papers include a stock certificate issued to C.C. Langdon from the Agricultural Mechanical and Horticultural Association of Mobile, dated 1877 May 25. A letter, 1880 July 14, from William M. Byrd, chairman of the Perry Co., Ala. Democratic and Conservative Executive Committee, to Langdon in Mobile requests Langdon to deliver several political speeches to Perry Co. voters.
